The horn

 
 

Michael Henry has played horn in the Redwood Symphony since 1999. Prior to joining Redwood he was principal horn in the Nova Vista Symphony, where he was also featured as soloist in Leopold Mozart’s Concerto for Alphorn, performing it both on natural horn and a garden hose.

 

A California native, Michael was born in Santa Ana, but was raised in the Midwest, where he studied horn with Nancy-Cochran Block, David Reiswig, and Gail Williams, former associate principal of the Chicago Symphony.

 

Michael holds an undergraduate degree in Horn performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City conservatory of Music, and a Masters in Music composition from Northwestern University. A versatile performer, he has been involved with many types ensembles, from new music groups, orchestras, chamber ensembles, woodwind and brass quintets, to jazz ensembles, Black Crack Revue, and the Punk Rock Orchestra.
