Dr. MUTO
Dr. MUTO
From Gaming Nexus:
“What really stood out for me was the game’s audio, I just simply loved the voice acting. The voice for Dr. Muto fits his character to a T. You don’t get some bumbling madman who genuinely sounds like he’s crazy. It’s funny, entertaining and a nice fit to the character. The rest of the sounds are composed of those cheesy over-the-top sci-fi movie effects that wouldn’t be out of place in and Ed wood film. I loved it, the zaps and such really fit well in the game.”
From GameZone.com:
Sound 9.2
“Midway put together a great group of actors for the character voices! The characters voices never get annoying during one point in the game! Also they picked the best voices to fit each character. Dr. Muto’s voice is something one would expect a mad scientist would sound like the squeaky-loud yet bashful type voice. This game also brings about a lot of humor, for instance, when Dr. Muto finds a key item, he will yell out certain catch phrases, and do a little boogie dance.”
“The music and sound effects accompany the game entirely. Each of the different sounds are unique, and fit the game, from the zany transformations, to the sound of the sludge in certain levels, and Dr. Muto’s different guns that he uses. The music sounds like it was taken from a movie, which helps set this entire game’s atmosphere. It give the game a science fiction theme, with a gritty undertone. The entire sound department deserves a round of applause for they did an excellent job!”
From IGN - Douglass C. Perry:
“Much like the graphics the sound department comes through with flying colors. The music comes in the flavor of creepy sci-fi themes, with special synth sounds creating b-movie style soundscapes. It’s all right on the money, replete with good quality sound.”
“The sound effects and voice-overs, however are where the sounds shine the most; the main focus being Dr. Muto himself. A lead character that does indeed talk, Muto’s squeaky, nasally voice is perfectly fleshed out with shouts of euphoric exclamation, derogatory curses, and low-sounding mumbles. When he collects something of importance, he screams out in victory, accompanied by painful hip-thrusting action, and when he dies, his voice shrieks in long, agonizing screams.”
“From what I could determine, the sound effects are all entirely original. Every sound is genuinely cool, out of the ordinary, and not taken from some stock library of TV sounds that has been thrust upon us over the years. His sill laser gun makes oddball sounds, and everything from collecting items to breaking objects to picking up Gomers provide unusual, likeable sound effects.”
“All in all, Dr. Muto is a pleasure to listen to, be it in the voice-acting department, music or special effects.”
